Canada Day - East of Edmonton Style!

It’s time to get the barbecues out and stock up on sunscreen because this weekend is Canada Day!
Celebrate with friends and family this long weekend by heading East of Edmonton and checking out all the fantastic events these great towns have to offer. Whether you want to get active, enjoy some great food, listen to live music, or all of these above, these events have it all. Don’t forget to stay for the fireworks!

Thorhild Events – On June 28th, check out the Thorhild Reign Bough Fiddle and Music Festival; four stages showcasing groovy, uplifting, spirited music that transcends genre. July 1st is the Thorhild Stampede and Demolition Derby that will be included amongst other Canada Day festivities. Enjoy a parade, pancake breakfast, rodeo, and steak dinner. Also on July 1st is the Thorhild Car Show where you can view a selection of cars, trucks, imports, motorcycles, antiques, and more!
Cold Lake Canada Day – For the early risers, the day kicks off with a 5km fun run, followed by a pancake breakfast at Kinosoo Beach and an exciting parade at 10am. The rest of the afternoon’s festivities include a volleyball tournament, bouncy castles, a magic show, and pony rides for the kids, as well as beer gardens for the adults. Bring your chair and end the day with a FREE concert from The Washboard Union and the fireworks display at dusk.
Bonnyville Canada Day – If you’re looking for some great eats and day of fun for the whole family, head out to Bonnyville this weekend! Get there early for the opening ceremonies and pancake breakfast, then stay late for the parade, free barbecue, and musical entertainment. Bonnyville Chuckwagon Races – On June 28th, 29th, and 30th, mosey on over to the Rodeo Grounds for the Chuckwagon Races in Bonnyville. Friday is the Chili cookoff from noon to 2pm, followed by a dance that evening with a live performance by Branch One Eighty Three. Sunday includes a pancake breakfast and a performance by band Mid Life Crisis. The races happen every day, so you don’t have to miss out on the fun!
Lac La Biche Mission Canada Day – With a kids festival, cultural dancers, fiddlers, and live music, this is a day packed full of fun! Come by in the morning for a pancake breakfast and enjoy live music all day. For $10 you can feast on a delicious steak dinner in the evening and head to the gift shop for some tasty soft serve afterward. ©Photo by Dick Tam
Ultimate Canada Day Community Celebrations of Lavoy, Mundare, and Vegreville – These three communities are teaming up to celebrate as a region this year. First stop is Vegreville for a pancake breakfast and CF-15 flyover. For the afternoon, jump in the car and head to Lavoy for a parade, bouncy castle, and delicious steak dinner. Last stop is Mundare for an exciting street party with plenty of activities for the whole family, as well as beer gardens! Finish the night with a fireworks show in either Vegreville or Mundare at 11pm.
Daysland Canada Day – From live entertainment, a bouncy castle and kids activities, cake cutting, BBQ, and goodies and prizes to be won, there’s plenty of fun to be had in Daysland this Canada day. You can also check out the Cars in the Park car show hosted by Greasy D’s Rod & Kustom!
Elk Island National Park Canada Day – If you’re looking to get active this Canada Day, head to Elk Island National Park and explore over 80km of trails while you enjoy the nature and wildlife. In the afternoon, watch the flag raising at Astotin Lake and Recreation Area, and take part in one of the fun programs for kids and all ages. ©Photo by Greg Gregoire
