Attractions & Events
Redwater is proud to be home to North America's largest free-standing oil derrick, identified as Discovery Derrick No. 1, which stands in the heart of the town. The Redwater Museum showcases a large collection of photos and artifacts and in the summer is home of the Tourist Information Centre. The museum also has an exhibit that tells the story of “When Oil Hit Redwater.” It is a fascinating look at a history of boom and bust during the 1950s.
The town hosts many annual events, including a Town-Wide Garage Sale, weekly summer Farmers' Markets, Discovery Days, various golf tournaments, and the popular Kris Kringle & Festival of Trees in December. The Christmas Craft & Bake Sale in December offers an array of home-baked goodies for sale.
Redwater is also home to Pembina Place, a first-class recreation and cultural facility.
Outdoors
Redwater is a must visit for outdoor enthusiasts, boasting a multitude of recreational opportunities, including numerous parks and sporting venues. Play a round of golf at the Redwater Golf Club or enjoy a dip in the outdoor swimming pool.
For the more adventurous, visit Redwater's own sand hills located only five minutes east of town. The Sandhills Area boasts one of the largest sand dune fields in the region. It can be found in the northeast section of Sturgeon County, straight east of Redwater, near the North Saskatchewan River. With over 100 km of trails, enjoy nature hikes, birdwatching, equestrian and recreational use; it's a great place for ATV riders and nature lovers. It is used extensively by OHV riders but is also environmentally significant and used for both conservation and recreation purposes.
