Hamlet of Hairy Hill

Attractions & Events

Hairy Hill is located 95 km northeast of Edmonton just off Highway 45. Hairy Hill is now home to a bison statue, taking its place among Alberta’s great roadside attractions. Hairy Hill was named by settlers who found the hills covered in bison hair shed by the herds. In the 1900s when the Canadian Pacific Railway laid its tracks they found all the hair on the large hills and the hamlet had its name. The bison statue was dedicated last year in June during the Hairy Hill School Reunion. Tourists can now see the bison statue and a historical information plaque on mainstreet near the Post Office. Don’t miss the popular Hairy Hill Rodeo! Many other great events happening all year long can be found on the Go East of Edmonton website events listing page.
