Why Go?
Nestled in a serene rural landscape on the south shore of Lac La Biche Lake, the Lac La Biche Mission Site stands as a testament to Alberta’s Roman Catholic heritage. Located 16 km northwest of Lac La Biche hamlet, the site boasts historically significant structures such as the 1894 convent, the 1922-23 church, and a collection of wood-frame buildings including a laundry house, garage, and chicken coop. The site is further enriched by a cemetery, a grotto, and the archaeological remnants of earlier constructions like the Grey Nuns Convent and Rectory.Discover the fully restored 1894 convent, home to some of Alberta’s earliest residents—the nuns and students of the Mission. There, you’ll encounter a variety of displays showcasing antiques that were once used by the nuns, priests, and children who lived at the Mission.
