We’re rapidly coming up on back to school time but there’s just enough time to squeeze every drop of summer out of August!

Read on to discover some of the many fantastic things we have in our east of Edmonton region for the kids to love

Make a Splash at the Waterpark!

We’ve got some amazing splash parks in many communities in our region, including right here in the home town of the Go East of Edmonton travel guide – Vegreville! This newly built summer kids’ attraction is located behind the Vegreville Centennial Library; check it out before summer ends! A favorite among kids in the Strathcona region are the splash parks in Sherwood Park, particularly the RE/MAX Spray Park on Oak Street and the Clover Bar Ranch Spray Deck on Jim Common Drive North. At the other end of the Highway 16 route, you’ll find an excellent splash park designed for enjoyment of kids of all mobility ranges at the Bud Miller Park in Lloydminster.

Go Fish!Grab the tackle box and head over to some of our great fishing locations. Try beautiful Cold Lake, Beaver Lake near Lac La Biche and Miquelon Park Pond to name just a few. Find our complete fishing guide on our website here

Climb Through Time! – The Climb Through Time Museum in Paradise Valley is a unique museum in an old grain elevator that’s sure to spark the imaginations of your kids of all ages.

Blast from the Past – Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is a must for your list of awesome cultural destinations for your kids. This year marks 125 years of Ukrainian immigration in our region, where many of them chose to settle, and the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is the go to place to help your kids see this rich part of our region’s history come to life.

Fore!Head over to the Riverdale Mini Park near Wainwright for some excellent mini golfing. As well, mini golf is one of the many fun attractions available at the Bud Miller Park in Lloydminster.

Get to know Camrose CountyPrairie Fun Days is an awesome event happening in Camrose County where you can take your kids on either a self-guided tour to many unique and fun destinations throughout the region (with yummy treats along the way!) or buy tickets for the Prairie Cruiseliner and get the complete guided experience. Choose to go just for one day or make a weekend of it. The event dates are August 27th and 28th.

Sheep_Grazing_Fort_Sask

Do your kids love animals? Take them over to Fort Saskatchewan and check out the flock of about 50 sheep grazing their way through city parks to keep the grounds trimmed, complete with shepherd and border collies. This eco-friendly turf control patrol is out and about between 1:00PM and 8:00PM from Thursdays to Sundays, June 4th to September 5th. Head out to the North West Mounted Police Fort in the Peter T. Ream Historic Park to find this unique, local attraction.

Explore the Great Outdoors – Nurture a love for the great outdoors in your kids by taking them to some of our amazing nature centres and parks. Check out Elk Island National Park for excellent trails and wildlife viewing. Head over to the Strathcona Wilderness Centre for more great trails as well as some great nature programs and more.

Be an Archaeologist for a Day!

Add a date on your summer calendar for a trip out to the Bodo Archaeological Centre and Site just south of Provost on Highway 899. You can take your family on a guided tour as well as many exciting programs for all ages throughout the summer, including hands on excavating experiences.
