Four Seasons of Fun Family Experiences
Why Go?
Discover Prairie Gardens, a charming “little farm that could” near Bon Accord, where your family can experience garden-inspired fun and educational land-based activities. Founded in 1956 as a tree nursery, this regenerative, biodynamic farm now flourishes over 50 acres in Sturgeon County, just 25 minutes northeast of Edmonton on Highway 28. It serves as a sanctuary for over 800 varieties of fruits and vegetables and a loving home to farm animals. Wander through greenhouses, adventure-filled farms, and vibrant gardens. Explore their orchards, and shop for an array of flowers, herbs, fruit trees, pumpkins, and veggies at the Garden Centre.Prairie Gardens takes pride in its small, well-tended flocks of sheep, chickens, and goats. The Farm School offers unique workshops on homesteading, orcharding, and plant care, along with educational field trips. Corporate Retreats with farm-to-table dining, festive Halloween pumpkin patches, and enchanting Christmas parties are part of their seasonal offerings. Summer brings U-pick tours for fresh produce, while the Adventure Farm features farm animal interactions, kids mazes, train rides, gem mining, and more. Plan a memorable birthday party, or attend their special events like the Easter Festival, Fairy Berry, Sweet Corn, and Pumpkin Harvest Festivals—remember to book your tickets in advance! What’s Unique?
Bon Accord holds the distinction of being Canada’s first Dark Sky community. Located just 1 km north of Prairie Gardens, it is home to the “Payhonin National Healing Forest.” Collaborating with Respected Elder Bill Bertschy from Rising Thunder Tourism, the farm provides Indigenous group experiences centered around the concept of Mitákuye Oyásin, meaning “we are all related.” These experiences include storytelling, drumming, singing, and dancing, fostering a connection with the land and promoting unity among individuals. Visitors can learn about the forest’s medicinal plants, and the local wildlife, and admire the breathtaking night skies, all while striving for harmony with the indigenous community in Treaty Six Territory.*******************
