Located a little over an hour East of Edmonton is where you can find Vegreville, AB. Known for being the location of the World’s Largest Pysanka and Ukrainian heritage, there is so much to see and do when visiting the town of Vegreville.
Recently we had the chance to experience what they offer while we were in town for their parade and the Vegreville Country Fair.
Annual Parade & Vegreville Country Fair
There is something to be said about the feel of a small-town parade and fair, and if I were to describe it with one word, it would be “community”. A whole town, celebrating and coming together to enjoy some of their favourite past times.
Reminiscent of my childhood our first stop of the day was their parade, and it did not disappoint. Filled with local businesses, some of the biggest farm equipment I’ve ever seen and even candy I am sure if you were to ask my kids, their favourite part was definitely the candy.
My kids had no clue that going to the Vegreville Country Fair was also a part of the plan for the day. Surprised and eager to explore everything that the fair had to offer there were rides, games, food, animals and so much more to take in.

See What Vegreville Has to Offer
New this year, when you visit the Vegreville Visitor Centre at the Elks/Kinsmen Park you can take advantage of their FREE Borrow-A-Bike and Borrow-A-Boat rentals.
Whether you want to paddle under the Pysanka or explore the historic downtown of Vegreville with ease, these are both great options. Time slots can be reserved in advance, and you can read the full set of rules & regulations here.
Another great way to see what Vegreville has to offer this summer is through their annual SelfGuided Art Walk. This year 60 local businesses have entered and have featured paintings on their windows by local artists. This is also a great way to discover and shop some of the local businesses that are in and around town.
If you’re looking for some great places to eat, Vegreville is definitely not lacking in options. Right after the parade, we moseyed on over to Loco Burro Fresh Mexican Grill, a locally owned and family-operated restaurant serving up fresh flavours inspired by Mexico. The food was fresh and delicious and the atmosphere was welcoming.
Play The Road Trip Adventure Game
Taking place in 42 communities East of Edmonton, the Roadtrip Adventure Game goes until August 31st, and it’s a great way to explore many destinations during your road trip or getaway this summer.
With 3 different options to play, you can enter using the gameboard which can be picked up at the Vegreville Visitor Centre, via social media, or through the photo contest. There are over $4000 in prizes that are available to be won, and it’s also a great way to find new places to explore.
What’s even more exciting is that you can also find inspiration on where to find attractions, businesses, outdoor adventures and more while visiting any of these communities via the GO EAST of Edmonton website.
