COOKING LAKE-BLACKFOOT PROVINCIAL RECREATION AREA
If you’re more interested in an adventure-packed day trip, try Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Recreation Area. This massive landbase runs along the southern boundary of Elk Island National Park and offers free access to 170 km of back-country trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and interpretive programs. Home of the Canadian Birkebeiner Ski Festival, the site offers some of the best cross-country skiing in Alberta.
