Alberta Winter Games
Get ready to experience the excitement of the 2026 Alberta Winter Games, coming to the Lakeland Region February 13–16, 2026! Since the first Games in Banff in 1976, this beloved Alberta tradition has celebrated the spirit of young athletes and the communities that cheer them on. Over 2,400 athletes and coaches will compete across M.D. of Bonnyville, the town of Bonnyville, Cold Lake, and the village of Glendon — and we can’t wait to welcome over 5,000 visitors to share in the action. Whether you’re visiting or live right here in the Lakeland, be part of the Games — cheer, explore, and even join the team as a volunteer to help make history!
Minister of Tourism and Sports Joseph Schow announced the 2026 Alberta Winter Games will be co-hosted by the Town and MD of Bonnyville, the City of Cold Lake, and the Village of Glendon.
Athletes aged 11-16 will compete in a variety of individual and team sports at the Alberta Summer Games. Participants qualify to attend the games through various zone playoffs and selections held throughout the province.
The host society in Lakeland County has previously hosted the games in 2010 in the cities of Bonnyville and Cold Lake, and for the 2026 games will coordinate with and be supported by Alberta’s Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Branch.
The first Alberta Winter Games took place in Banff in 1976, and the event has gone on to become a staple in Alberta’s sports community,” according to information from the Government of Alberta.
