Town of Legal
If you are looking for a quick trip out of the city to collect stickers for the Roadtrip Adventure Game, head north on Hwy 28 to the Town of Legal. Legal is the “French Mural Capital of Canada” and has the highest concentration of murals per capita in the world. Create your own photo opportunity while taking in these wonderful works of art!

Town of Bon Accord
After you have taken in the sights of Legal, take a short drive over to Bon Accord to check one of the many beautiful parks. Head downtown for some shopping at the variety of shops. Take the kids to see the cute animals at Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm and enjoy some time exploring the family fun activities they offer.

Town of Gibbons
Once you are finished enjoying Bon Accord, get back on to Hwy 28, for a short 10 minute drive to Gibbons. Did you know that Gibbons was the first stop on the Athabasca Landing Trail? Visit the Gibbons Historic Museum, where you will see historic buildings filled with equipment, tools and artifacts from the past century or spend some time enjoying the immense green space that Gibbons has to offer. You might also want to take the kids for a fun visit at Jurassic Forest park.

Town of Redwater
As you head north of Gibbons on Hwy 28, head to Erdmann’s Gardens and Greenhouses to stock up on fresh veggies. Just another 20 minutes north on Hwy 28, you will find the Town of Redwater which is home to North America’s largest free standing oil derrick. Take the kids to the outdoor swimming pool or head outside of town to Redwater’s Sandhills to enjoy nature hikes, birdwatching, horseback riding, and recreational areas.

One to Two Hours from Edmonton
Thorhild County
To continue collecting stickers, just a short jaunt north of Redwater, you will find Thorhild County, offering plenty of family-friendly activities and events. Find a wide array of unique gifts at Nook in the Woods country store. If you are looking to cool off from the summer heat, stop at Half Moon Lake Park Natural Area or head further north to enjoy the beach at Long Lake Provincial Park. If you’re interested in seasonal camping give George’s RV Park a call. Stop in the townsite of Thorhild to visit the museum and pick up your sticker for your game board.

Village of Waskatenau
Venture further and get back on Hwy 28 for a quick, twenty minute drive to the Village of Waskatenau. Take a photo at the wooden train trestle for your social media posts. South of town, you can hop on to Victoria Trail, which was once an Indigenous trail leading to Victoria Settlement. Bring your tent or RV and stay at the immaculate Pine Creek Campground. Waskatenau is also the gateway to the Smoky Lake Region, filled with opportunities for outdoor recreation, with over ten campgrounds and parks for you to enjoy. Follow the multi-use Iron Horse Trail, which is perfect for biking, hiking, quadding and horseback riding.

Town of Smoky Lake
While in the Smoky Lake Region, be sure to visit Metis Crossing, which engages visitors through their heads, hearts, hands, and hunger. The Town of Smoky Lake, also known as the Pumpkin Capital of the World, offers plenty of shopping and dining experiences, including Ukrainian goods from the Old Fashioned Bread Bakery & Deli and locally grown produce from Linda’s Market Gardens or Serben Farms Store. Or stop at Smoky Lake Hardware for your hardware needs. A day trip may not be enough time to see all the sights, so plan your stay at Bonne Nuit Bed & Breakfast or the Smoky Lake Inn. If your roadtrip adventure involves camping, head east of Vilna to stay at the beautiful Paradise Cove Resort.

One to Two Hours from Edmonton
Athabasca Region
Located 90 minutes north of Edmonton is the Athabasca Region. Take a daytrip or make it a longer staycation. Enjoy Athabasca’s riverfront area that features picnic areas, a spray park, playground, a skateboard park, and seasonal food trucks. Explore the downtown Athabasca area- with a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Be sure to pick up a brochure for the Historical Walking Tour.

Lac La Biche Region
Whether you continue heading northeast on Hwy 28, or travel north, you will discover plenty of beauty in the lakes, beaches and wilderness, as well as all the amenities the big cities have to offer. The Lac La Biche region is home to Winston Churchill Provincial Park, Alberta’s only island provincial park. The park contains walking and biking trails, white sandy beaches, and campsites. Full service lake-view cabins are also available. Ten minutes north of the hamlet of Lac La Biche, you van visit the Lac La Biche Mission, which was established in 1853. More history awaits at the Lac La Biche Museum and at the Museum of Aboriginal Peoples’ Art & Artifacts which is located at Portage College Lac La Biche campus. The hamlet also offers shopping, dining, accommodations, and a spray park for the kids! Plan your visit for a Friday afternoon and find something made, baked or grown at the Lac La Biche Farmers’ Market. Rustic camping offers an authentic family experience at Hideaway Adventure Grounds. Hamlet of Plamondon
Travel 20 minutes east of Lac La Biche to Plamondon, which is one of four officially bilingual communities in Alberta. Visit Mini Parc Heritage Park and walk among miniature replicas of Plamondon’s first buildings and homesteads for a truly unique historical experience. St. Paul Region
Back on Hwy 28, the St. Paul region is located just south of the highway. The short detour is worth the visit to see the world’s first UFO landing pad located in the Town of St. Paul. If you are more of a history buff, you will enjoy visiting the Musee St. Paul Museum, which showcases the town’s origins as a Metis colony. Shop at St. Brides Trading Post, Northeastern Alberta’s largest supplier of Aboriginal art and craft supplies. Taste the local flavours of the region at the Twisted Fork restaurant. There are also plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities in the St. Paul region.

Town of Elk Point
The Town of Elk Point is also part of the St. Paul region and just a short twenty five minute drive from the Town of St. Paul. Here, you can pose for a photo with the 32-foot Peter Fidler statue and celebrate the history of the 1790’s fur trade. Village of Glendon
North of Hwy 28 is the Village of Glendon, the Pyrogy Capital of the World. If you are looking for a roadside attraction, this is a must stop on your trip. Visit Pyrogy Park, home to the World’s Largest Pyrogy, which creates another spectacular photo opportunity. Take a break at Minnie Lake or Wolf Lake park for a picnic or dip in the water. Town of Bonnyville & M.D. of Bonnyville
Located just over two hours northeast of Edmonton, Bonnyville has plenty to offer, whether you are on a roadtrip for the day or looking for a longer stay. The M.D. of Bonnyville operates eleven campgrounds in the Bonnyville and Cold Lake region. Visit the Bonnyville & District Museum, where you can learn more about the fur trade and visit the statue of Angus Shaw, a late 1700’s fur trader and explorer. There is something for everyone at the Bonnyville & District Centennial Centre, including fitness centre, indoor track, climbing wall, indoor playground, arenas, movie theatre and café. The City of Cold Lake is located three hours northeast of Edmonton. The city is surrounded by natural beauty with clear blue lakes and sandy beaches and a rugged, forest backdrop.
