Cold Lake Attractions & events


History buffs won’t want to miss the Cold Lake Museum. It is a multi-theme museum located on the old site of 42 Radar Squadron of CFB 4-Wing Cold Lake. The separate buildings house an Aboriginal Gallery, Heritage Gallery, Oil and Gas Gallery, and Air Force Museum. Each building is connected by a covered walkway which is approximately 700 feet long. There are also outdoor displays of army vehicles and aircraft.

Energy Centre is the hub of activity in the City of Cold Lake. This state of the art facility hosts sporting events, concerts, trade shows, and more. Casino Dene is where you can play, dine, unwind and stay. Featuring over 250 slot and VLT machines, table games, and poker tournaments. The Grande Parlour is the place to go to for arts and culture in Cold Lake showcasing local talent. The theatre has seating for over 100 guests. Enjoy over 40 one of a kind performances, concerts, art exhibits and workshops all year long.

The Cold Lake Agricultural Society has numerous annual events, including a Bull-A-Rama Spring Series and a June Rodeo. On Canada Day, the City of Cold Lake celebrates with an annual parade and several activities, followed by a spectacular fireworks show later in the evening at the Cold Lake Marina. During the show, the lake acts like a mirror, creating an amazing display that should not be missed.

Each year on the August long weekend, the City of Cold Lake hosts Aqua Days at Kinosoo Beach. It’s an event with plenty of activities for the whole family. As the summer roars into September long weekend so does Feast at the Beach Food Truck & Music Festival where the variety of entertainment and food is fantastic. November ramps up Christmas and holiday events so be sure to enjoy the activities while you get your gift shopping done. For the outdoorsman don’t miss the Cherry Grove Big Buck & Sportsmen Show in December.

Outdoors

As a year-round recreation area, Cold Lake is the ideal vacation spot for water enthusiasts, beach goers, fishermen, outdoorsmen, skiers, and those just seeking a unique get-away experience. The camping opportunities are endless!

The Beaver River Trestle south of Cold Lake is a highlight of the Iron Horse Trail. The trestle is 1/2 km long and 60 metres high.

The Municipal District of Bonnyville operates the popular Cold Lake M.D. Park, a lakeside campground right in the city limits. If you want a less urban setting, check out Crane Lake M.D. Parks, or for an intimate lakeside camping experience book a site at Ethel Lake M.D. Park. For the avid golfer, enjoy the Grand Centre Golf Club or the Cold Lake Golf & Winter Club nestled just off Veteran’s Drive on Canadian Forces Base 4 Wing Cold Lake.

Whether its summer fishing, winter ice fishing tours, or simply looking for specialized lures and bait – Anglers Bait Tackle & More can hook you up! You can also book a summer fishing charter with Hamilton House Inn & Adventures. In the winter, you can rent cross-country skiing equipment to enjoy a woodland oasis of 12 km of trails around their private lake. For winter family fun, Kinosoo Ridge Snow Resort features downhill skiing, snowboarding and a tube park. It is North Eastern Alberta’s premiere downhill ski facility serving the area for 35 years.

Find all your needs for shopping, dining and where to stay from the Highway 28 corridor through the downtown area, and further north to the marina and lakeshore areas.

The Aurora Bar & Lounge at Casino Dene is a signature restaurant with an exceptional dining experience. A must stop in downtown is Cold Lake Brewing and Distilling. Visit the tasting room for handmade beer and spirits with unique flavours. Nearby, the Lakeland Inn is a dining destination with two restaurants plus a sports bar and lounge.

At Lakeshore Drive, check out Clark’s Eatery for a marvelous dining experience, the Maple Bacon Cranberry Chicken is so good your taste buds will tingle reading this. With incredible reviews and great service – many say Picante Café is the best restaurant in the city – this dining experience will be delightful.
