Village of Hay Lakes

Head southeast of Edmonton on Hwy 21 thirty minutes to the Village of Hay Lakes, where you will find attractions, shopping and outdoor activities. Hay Lakes offers quality family living for all ages, with businesses, school, senior’s activities and recreation facilities. Camp at the jewel of the community – Telegraph Park & Campground, located on the village boundary. This pristine 80-acre park has wonderful walking trails, a stocked fishing pond, and 25 camping sites.

Town of Tofield

Located just forty minutes southeast of Edmonton on Hwy 14, Tofield offers a diverse array of attractions. Begin your exploration at the Beaverhill Lake Nature Centre and Museum, boasting interactive displays highlighting the area’s natural and cultural heritage. Venture outdoors to enjoy the spray park, golfing at Coal Creek Golf Resort, or picnicking at scenic parks. Birdwatching enthusiasts will delight in the federally recognized bird sanctuaries around Beaverhill Lake. Camping options abound, including Tofield Campground, BlueBird RV Park. and Black Nugget Lake Park. Indulge in shopping at Busy B Bargains  or satisfy your sweet tooth at The Sour Moose. Cap off your day with a hearty meal at Uncle Roger’s, offering family dining and a sports lounge ambiance.

Beaver County

Head down Hwy 14 and take some time to explore Beaver County.  Coal Creek Golf Resort is an 18-hole course just across from Black Nugget Lake Campground.  The lake was developed out of a former coal mine.  Stretch your legs and enjoy the spacious treed sites or take in a scenic hike on one of the trails.  Camp Lake Park near Viking is the perfect place to enjoy water-skiing and spend the afternoon swimming or relaxing at one of the lakes’ two beaches.

Village of Holden

Once back onto Highway 14, drive a short distance to the Village of Holden.  The Holden Museum is a popular stop located east of the Mainstreet Cenotaph.  The Gallery is a venue for artisans of all kinds, including arts, crafts, and country decor to show their products.  Holden is proud to be home to the Beaver Regional Arts Society, which offers a variety of entertainment at the Paragon Theatre.  The Village Campground offers three 30-amp power sites, four un-serviced sites, and an overflow space all in a quiet, well-kept area.  Nearby, kids can enjoy the spray park.

Town of Viking

Continuing along Hwy 14, Viking, approximately 20 minutes from Holden, stands out as the Sutter brothers’ hometown. Six NHL-playing siblings, often team captains, hail from here. Explore Viking Museum’s restored buildings, like a schoolhouse, log store, church, farmhouse, and hospital. Admire tools, vintage International tractors, and grab a map for a Viking’s civic pride and tour local gardens and streets. Don’t miss Viking Golf & Country Club, or extend your stay at Eastview Park Campground or Camp Lake Park for beach fun. Explore unique shops like Viking Meats for famous Viking Wieners or Java Blossom Flowers Ltd. for home decor and gifts over a coffee

Village of Irma

As you drive down Hwy 14, stop in the Village of Irma.  Visit the Irma Museum, a tiny Anglican church and a building that carries an impressive collection of over 400 antique lamps.  Go antique shopping while you’re exploring at Like It Never Was or find some unique gifts at Long Branch Trading Companywhere you can also enjoy lunch and the best coffee in town!  Make sure to give yourself time to browse the impressive collection at Irma Home & Garden Décor.

Town of Wainwright

Follow Hwy 14 for twenty minutes, to Wainwright, a town brimming with history and charming boutiques. Explore the downtown area, boasting restored heritage buildings filled with eateries featuring cuisine from around the globe. Discover unique shops like Walkn on Water for eclectic finds and Gibson’s Home Hardware for outdoor essentials. Capture memories at iconic spots like the colossal Buffalo Statue and the Battle River Train Trestle. Immerse yourself in prairie history at the Wainwright Museum, housed in a historic CNR train station. City of Camrose

Just a short drive from Hay Lakes or an hour southeast of Edmonton lies the City of Camrose. Town of Daysland

Just half an hour east of Camrose is the community of Daysland. The Town of Daysland is home to the historic Palace Theatre, built in 1952 and located on main street. Visit the DaysArt website to view the schedule of live performances.  For the outdoor enthusiast, experience beauty through the 3.5 km Crocus Trail. Look for the purple Crocus Trail flags around town to gain access to this hidden gem. Stay at the Edgerton Day Campground or stay and play at the Daysland Golf Course Campground. Village of Forestburg

Head south of Daysland to the Village of Forestburg, rich in agriculture and history. There are plenty of opportunities to step back in time. Visit the Forestburg Museum, a 1927 Masonic Temple. South of town, you will find the Diplomat Mine Interpretive Site – Canada’s only surface coal mining museum, home to one of the largest mobile mining land machines made from riveted construction in 1927. Immerse yourself in a historic experience through a Battle River Train Excursions, brought to you by the Friends of the Battle River Railway. Town of Killam

Back on Hwy 13, Killam is approximately 1.5 hours from Edmonton. This thriving community has plenty to offer both residents and visitors. In addition to hosting events and activities, Killam Agriplex features an indoor swimming pool, bowling alley, fitness room and concession. It is also home to the Parents for Fun in Flagstaff Family Resource Centre featuring an indoor playground that will not disappoint! Travelling families are welcome to drop-in.
