February is filled with some of the best winter festivals. It’s also a time when we celebrate love on Valentine’s Day and focus on fun with our families on Family Day. There are many wonderful winter adventures to explore all month when you Go East of Edmonton!

Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend this year, but you can find events from February 12-14. A few options to celebrate your special someone this year include Valentine’s at Cherry Lane, Andrew Valentine’s Comedy Night, Ryley Valentine’s Date Night, and St. Paul Valentine’s Day – Love Finds a Home. The Alberta Winter Games arrives to our region from February 13-16. Over 2,400 athletes and coaches will compete across the M.D. of Bonnyville, the town of Bonnyville, Cold Lake, and the Village of Glendon.

Family Day is February 16, and there are several events happening in our region. A few of the Family Day festivals include Legal Family Day, Vegreville Family Day, Viking Family Day, Lac La Biche Family Day, Heisler Family Day, Elk Point Family Heritage Day, and Mundare Family Day. The Lac La Biche Ice Festival invites winter lovers to plan a weekend packed with high-energy fun on the frozen lake. This signature cold-weather celebration transforms the ice into a full-on playground, with Mega Truck Racing and snowmobile action thrilling spectators all day long.
Vintage sleds and trapper displays highlight northern heritage, while axe throwing, youth pond hockey, and a wide range of kids’, family, and cultural activities keep every age entertained. Off the ice, visitors can explore the trade show and job fair, enjoy warm concessions, and soak up the lively festival atmosphere.

Winter Adventures Galore in February
There are so many winter activities to enjoy – you’ll find plenty of adventures on this page: Must Do Winter Experiences.

Ice fishing now has modern perks such as heated portable huts, GPS units and other gear to ensure you have the best chances of success. You can rent shacks from A-Z Excursions in the Cold Lake area.
The Alberta Free Family Fishing Weekend takes place February 14-16! No fishing license is required this weekend.

Myrnam Snowmobile Rally
There are several snowmobile events in the area this month as well. See our Snowmobiling section of our website and check out these events:

February is also a wonderful time to participate in some Cross Country Skiing, and there are plenty of trails in the region to experience this fun activity. This classic-style ski festival Strathcona County Canadian Birkie Ski Festival happens February 13-15 and offers recreational and competitive ski events for the whole family.
If you want to experience something a little different with your skis (or snowboard), check out the Lac La Biche Skijoring event on February 21.
