This week, from August 9th to 16th, head out to your local markets, restaurants, and farms during Alberta Local Food Week! Farmers’ Markets are happening all summer around Alberta. Don’t forget to stop by the farm tours, breweries and distilleries, and end your day with a delicious meal with fresh ingredients at local restaurants.

Shop at a Farmers Market this week!

This summer over 10 local markets are available around the region for you to find delicious, locally sourced produce, meats, and more.

What better time to see what our province’s agricultural community has to offer this year? At the beginning of the week, head to the Ardrossan Farmers’ Market held every Tuesday from 4:30 to 7:30 PM and featuring many vendors for produce, meats, treats, and more!

On Thursdays, stop by the Boyle Farmers’ Market from 1-4 PM for a variety of food goods and crafts. From 3:30 to 6:30 PM, you can head to Cold Lake to check out one of the biggest markets in the area! Finally, head to Vegreville from 5-8 PM for the Pysanka Park Market where you can find a huge selection of vendors including Taber corn, fresh lemonade, tasty baked goods.

Start your weekend with a visit to Lac La Biche Farmers’ Market, open every Friday from 2-6 PM. With dozens of vendors to shop, you’re sure to find fresh ingredients, the perfect gift, and a variety of treats to take home!

Saturday is the perfect day to go market hopping! From 10 AM to noon, head to Smoky Lake for baking, traditional Ukrainian food, fresh farm eggs, produce, and more. Camrose Saturday Farmers’ Market runs weekly from 9 AM to 1 PM with over twenty vendors. Don’t forget to stop by Bonnyville from 11 AM to 2 PM for many options including fresh veggies, potatoes, baking, and crafts. Finally, end your day at Andrew Farmers’ Market, now open from 1-3 PM with a great selection of quality products.

In the M.D. of Bonnyville…

Tour the orchid and try a fun round of mini-golf at Rocky Meadows Country Getaway. As well, see what treats you can take home to enjoy later.

Plus, Charlotte Lake Farms has all kinds of Fun Family activities planned.

In St Paul…

Make sure to pay a visit to the Peoples Museum of St Paul to see learn all about Butter churning, ice cream making, cream separating and see a cross-saw demonstration.

Plus the Lakeland Brewery in St. Paul is open for tours and sampling.

In Strathcona County…

Join the event page for Ardrossan Recreation & Agricultural Society’s virtual celebration. Don’t miss out on these fascinating demonstrations, and interactive contests from the comfort of your home. You might even win a prize pack of farm-fresh goods!

At Barr Estate Winery, you’ll be able to take a wine tour, indulge in a BBQ, take a garden walk, and even meet some of the farm animals!

Be sure to check out the New attraction in Strathcona County, the Mennonite Heritage Farm with Petting zoo, Flower Garden, Raspberries, Garden produce, Vegetable garden, Animals, Wagon tours this weekend.

In County of Vermilion River...

Chatsworth Farm near Vermilion is a host for Alberta Open Farm Days and their event will include free tours of the family farm with most of the animals, including beef cattle, sheep and lambs, chickens, geese, ducks, and turkeys, plus farm kittens and the family’s livestock guardian dog. Guided tours will be held every hour on the hour, beginning at 11 am and ending at 4 pm, featuring machinery demonstrations and also a look at the vegetable garden. After the tour, visitors are encouraged to bring lunch or a snack and a picnic blanket to enjoy a picnic in the pasture, and there will also be a farm pop-up store with the family’s beef and lamb available.

Because of new Alberta Health regulations and Covid-19 precautions, registration is required with timed entries and limited to a maximum of 100 people at a time. Unfortunately, drop-ins aren’t allowed this year. Here is the booking link.

In the Camrose area…

By visiting Round Hill Renaissance Community Garden, you can discover how to grow, weed, and harvest vegetables, herbs and fruit. For all your help, you’ll get to take home a veggie bag! Also don’t miss out on visiting Irving Farms Fresh Farm Store.

Not far from here you can tour Lil Ryley Farms with machinery demonstrations plus vegetable, poultry and livestock operations.
