It’s summertime and you know what that means — there’s no better time to leave the city and head in search of some camping adventures. East of Edmonton is home to some great retreats, provincial parks, parkland spaces and RV campgrounds. Here are a few camping locations to check out East of Edmonton. Rest assured, you will find loads of space to park your RV and plenty of great outdoors to take in. An adventure awaits you!

NORTHEAST of Edmonton

 

Boyle – Boyle is home to Long Lake Provincial Park, sporting a beach and plenty of trails to try out – provided you’re game for the challenge, of course! Whether it’s summer or winter, experience some of your favourite family activities like windsurfing, mountain biking and golfing the Long Lake way! As well, George’s RV Park offers a fabulous location to enjoy all the recreational options that the Long Lake Provincial Park has to offer. Features include showers, concession, dump station, firewood, flush toilets, picnic shelter, day-use area, and a laundromat.

Municipal District of Bonnyville – Calling all beach fans! You can find a whopping 10 municipal campgrounds in the Bonnyville and Cold Lake area, mostly facing the lake. All of these campgrounds offer powered sites, day-use picnic areas, outhouses, boat launches, playgrounds, and beach areas for the kids to dig their feet into. To enjoy lakeshore camping at its best, check out the Cold Lake M.D Parkwhere the beach is only a few steps from your campsite. Reserve some spots and get your feet wet ASAP. Enjoy the mini-golf, paintball, cafe and treed campsites at Rocky Meadows Country Getaway North of Bonnyville. Looking for a ‘home away from home’? We recommend Riel Beach Campground, with its wide, sandy beach, great fishing and boating to take advantage of. Thorhild County  – Ramark Park is a 50-site private RV Park located on the Long Lake Provincial Park Road, 1.5 hours North East of Edmonton. It’s only 1 KM from Long Lake Provincial Park, popular for water sports and great fishing holes tucked on either side of the lake. Campers get free access to the Day Use Area including sandy beaches, play area, water sport rentals and concession.  Each campsite has power (30 & 50 amp), water & sewage removal.

Lac La Biche Region – These are some of the best stops for a unique outdoor and camping experience. First, head to Alberta’s only island provincial park, Sir Winston Churchill Park, where you can find walking trails, sandy beaches, and camping areas in an old-growth forest. Lac La Biche County operates these 3 campgrounds in and around Lac La Biche: Fork Lake, Owl River and at the Bold Centre. Learn more at laclabichecounty.com/p/campgrounds

If you’re looking for even more space to explore, head to Lakeland Provincial Recreation area that covers 11 major lakes and has 45km worth of trails. This is a great spot for taking your boat out for an afternoon of fishing! For even more fishing opportunities, you can also check out Beaver Lake Provincial Recreation Area — camping is also available! And for those who love to canoe, the Lakeland Canoe Circuit offers an exciting 3-day, 40km journey paddling through Lakeland Provincial Park. Paddleboard and find peace…

Smoky Lake County – Dotted around the County are some fantastic and uncrowded lakeside campgrounds for your summer pleasure. For starters, there’s Hanmore Lake, a popular retreat with two campgrounds giving you access to all the water activities you could dream of. Between May and October, get up to berry picking, off-site ATV exploring, fishing, golfing with your friends, and plenty of swimming! Bellis Beach offers quaintness on an unprecedented level, and you can head to the Garner Lake Provincial Park if you’re looking for wide spaces, expansive trails, and some boating fun to get up to. Motorcycle fans will love Howlin Coyote Campground, a camping experience for those who can bring everything they need on their bike! Along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, Metis Crossing RV Park is over 500 acres of tradition and customs found in one place. For anyone looking to gain an understanding of Metis culture and heritage, we’d recommend this campsite. Northern Lites RV Park is open to members and families for year-round camping. Enjoy live music, & a full line-up of recreational activities. Plus the hot tub is great to relax in after a long day of guided horseback riding or adventuring.

EAST of Edmonton

Strathcona County – Please note that campground at Elk Island National Park  is closed all of summer 2022. We apologise for any inconvenience.

However, you can still visit the park and if you go mid-week, it’ll ensure you have more space to roam.

Lamont County – In Lamont County, your choices for a campground is diverse. Besides the full-service Lamont Campground, located within walking distance of the town, there’s also the Andrew R.V. Park, a popular spot near the World’s Largest Mallard Duck and close to other fun activities like mini-golf. Mundare is home to Ukraina Park, newly renovated and open until the September long weekend. Nearby Bruderheim also has a campground, offering serviced and non-serviced sites for your camping pleasure.

Fort SaskatchewanFort Lions Campground has so many amenities amidst spaced out lots, it’ll quickly be your go-to place to come unwind!

Marwayne – The Legion RV Park was completely rebuilt in 2011 for your comfort. Wifi is available on this 16 site campground with full water & sewer hookups (summer only) and 30-amp power.

Lloydminster – If you’re wanting to explore the border city area, your sure bet is CampnRv, located just 5 minutes west of Lloydminster on Highway 16. They’re a great, family-run full service RV park if you’re looking for a friendly park like atmosphere facilities. They also have large area for pets to be off leash, or just hang out at the various fire pit locations.

Elks/Kinsmen Park, Vegreville – Besides being home to the world’s largest Pysanka Easter Egg, Vegreville hosts a large campground at the Elks/Kinsmen Park. People from all over the province come here to see the Pysanka Park. Given it is home to a fishing pond full of trout, a fountain and over 50 camping sites, could you blame them? Every Thursday in the summer, the park plays host to a Farmers’ Market where you can stock up on some of the best in local produce and meats – did someone say camping picnic? Also, did we mention there are food trucks in the park every week? Trust us when we say you won’t regret adding Elks/Kinsmen to your summer camping bucket list. Vegreville

Vermilion Provincial Park — Open year-round, the park features 111 sites, day-use area, dump station, firewood, flush toilets, group camping, picnic shelter, and available showers. There are plenty of fun activities around to full your day! Take the kids to the playground and spray park, or head out for canoeing, baseball, horseshoe pits, and mini-golf. There are also 20 km of hiking trails nearby to get some great exercise and fresh air!

SOUTHEAST of Edmonton

Camrose and Camrose County — Camrose is known for having some of the best golf in the province, and many of these courses have camping right on site! One of Alberta’s best-kept secrets, Pelican Point Campground, features plenty of amenities, is great for families, and it features a beautiful beach, so you can enjoy a day in the sun!

Whether you’re in the mood for fishing, boating, canoeing, or just relaxing by the water, Tillicum Beach Campground is the perfect spot for a summer getaway. With 107 standard and pull-through sites, laundry & shower facility, and WiFi, Camrose Exhibition Trail RV Park has everything you need to spend the night or stay awhile. For those looking to keep with the more experienced crowd, Blue Bird RV Park is seniors approved! All sites are fully serviced and the park has a wide variety of amenities, including two large bathrooms with heated flooring! Wanting to see more of the local area? If you fancy a game of golf while you camp, Double Dam Golf Course features a restaurant and beautiful and spacious campground with affordable, no service lots in their ‘Value Village’ campground available.

Cherry Lane BB and Campground offers a full service destination for rest, relaxation and reconnecting! The campground has 6 private camping spots with 30 amp power, picnic tables and firepits. Unserviced sites are also available, along with showers and washrooms onsite.

Camrose RV Park

Flagstaff Region — Relax, hike, birdwatch, fish, or simply stargaze at Battle River Crossing Resort. Since the campground is actually an extension of the family farm, you can even pick some organic Saskatoon berries to take home. One of the most popular activities at this resort: tubing down the river! Flagstaff also offers many other campgrounds in the region, including Daysland CampgroundDiplomat Trout Pond CampgroundFish Lake Campground, and more!

Battle River Crossing

Wainwright — Escape to the quiet and beautiful town of Wainwright, where you can stay just a stroll away from a nearby lake. Arm Lake Recreation Area features 124 sites with concession, laundromat, showers, and a nearby beach with boating, so you have everything you need during your stay. Don’t miss a chance to experience Riverdale Mini-Park, where you’ll be treated to beautiful scenery through a round of golf. Stay in one of their 38 full-service campsites, 15 power and water campsites, and 57 power campsites to fulfill all your camping needs. Go Glamping…

For anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of nature as well as the comfort of a room that feels just like home, many campsites now offer options for ‘glamping’. If you’re interested in what it’s like to spend a night in trappers tents, cabins—or yurts—there are many to choose from!

These shelters are fully insulated and sturdy structures that often resemble tents while taking your bed off of the ground and giving you more space to walk around. Many also offer tables, couches, and mini-fridges, all for your comfort.
